India Will Have Its First Quantum Computer In Three Years, Says Vijay Bhatkar—Founder Of Supercomputing In India
We are proud to share that our Chief Mentor, Dr. Vijay Pandurang Bhatkar, was the chief guest at the 67th convocation of Lucknow University, where he delivered an inspiring speech that captivated the audience. As India’s leading computer scientist and the pioneer of supercomputing in the country, Dr. Bhatkar's words echoed the spirit of innovation and determination that defines our nation.
In his address, Dr. Bhatkar revealed that India is set to have its first high-speed quantum computer within the next three years, thanks to the government’s efforts, including the creation of a prototype and a comprehensive five-year roadmap for implementing quantum computing. This milestone is a testament to the rapid advancements in technology and India's commitment to leading in the digital era.
Reflecting on India’s journey in supercomputing, Dr. Bhatkar shared a historical anecdote about former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s ambition to purchase a supercomputer from the US—a deal that ultimately fell through due to geopolitical concerns. Rajiv Gandhi turned to Dr. Bhatkar and posed the question, “Can we build a supercomputer in India?” To which Dr. Bhatkar responded, “Why can't we?”
Driven by that belief, Dr. Bhatkar led a team of 100 talented individuals to develop a supercomputer that surpassed its US counterparts within just three years, even without prior exposure to such technology. He emphasized the vital role supercomputers play in advancing technology, stating, “Today, no technology can be developed without a supercomputer.”
Dr. Bhatkar’s insights remind us of the importance of innovation, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. As we celebrate the achievements of the graduating class, we also look forward to the future he envisions—a future where India stands at the forefront of technological advancement.
Join us in applauding Dr. Bhatkar for his contributions to science and education, and let’s continue to inspire the next generation of thinkers and innovators!
